I greatly appreciate the education I received at various levels of schooling and want to help high school students through the college search by using quantitative data to demystify the process.
I was raised in Portland, Oregon where I attended public schools in a local suburb with the influence of a father that attended Caltech who worked as an electrical engineer and a German-born mother with education as a chemical analyst. When I was looking at colleges to study math, Harvey Mudd College was an interesting alternative to Caltech. I went through an Air Force ROTC program and spent time at USC while in LA, but then due to military cut-backs decided to pay back my ROTC scholarship and pursue advanced studies in Operations Research. Studying in sunny southern California was a welcome change to many rainy and gray months in Oregon. While in college I was able to travel to Denver, Colorado for Air Force training and experience a mountain climate and also get a peek at the Air Force Academy. Another summer was spent doing math research at Mt. Holyoke College in MA. Growing up we went on numerous trips to Europe and have continued that pursuit with our current family.
After completing my degrees, I went to work in the constantly evolving area of commodity and energy trading. I enjoyed using my math background alongside physics majors in the fascinating area of financial engineering. Then various energy and consulting firms provided different experiences utilizing my math and analytical skills. Raising my children has provided for different ways to apply my experience in data and planning tasks like creating school directories, helping design a new public elementary school, and analyzing fundraising and investment data. I greatly appreciate the education I received in my various levels of schooling and want to help high school students through the college search process with a quantitative viewpoint.
